Performed by the director, formerly a Seoul National University medical professor.
Chronic sinusitis, also known as chronic rhinosinusitis, refers to inflammation of the sinuses, which are air-filled cavities connected to the nasal passages.
Symptoms may include nasal congestion, runny nose, headaches, facial pressure, and post-nasal drip. Depending on the duration of the illness, cause, and severity of symptoms, medication is usually the first line of treatment. However, when medical treatment fails, surgical intervention using endoscopic sinus surgery may be recommended.
This procedure involves opening the sinus drainage pathways using an endoscope to allow better ventilation and drainage and may also involve correcting any anatomical blockages.
Endoscopic sinus surgery is typically performed using a camera that provides a magnified view of the inside of the nose, allowing the surgeon to accurately identify and remove diseased tissue while preserving important surrounding structures.
Because of the enhanced visibility, this method allows for safer and more precise surgery—even for areas that are hard to see with the naked eye.
